Adult Counselling
Support for the weight of adult life
Individual therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, grief and the everyday weight of being an adult.
You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support
Most people wait far longer than they need to, unsure whether what they're feeling really counts. Therapy isn't only a safety net for the hard moments — it is a place to think clearly about the life you are actually living.
Anxiety is the most common mental health concern in North America. By most estimates, around one in four of us will face it, so whatever's weighing on you, you're far from alone.
None of this needs a diagnosis to be worth a conversation.
It can be worth talking to someone if…
Whatever you're carrying, there's a place to start
Start with what feels closest — or let our Intake Specialists point the way.
Mood, anxiety & emotional health
- Anxiety When the worry won't switch off — and your body knows before you do — talking to someone who gets it is a real first step.
- Depression When energy, sleep, concentration, and the ability to imagine things feeling different all go at once, that can be depression — and it responds to support.
- Grief and loss Grief follows a death, but also the loss of a relationship, a role, or a future you expected — and it doesn't run to anyone's timetable.
- Bipolar Disorder When the highs and lows last weeks rather than hours and start costing you things, that has a name — and it responds to treatment.
- Eating Disorders Support for eating concerns, body image, and disordered eating — therapy for anyone navigating eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, food anxiety, and the emotional patterns that can make eating feel complicated.
Trauma, safety & hard experiences
- Trauma When something overwhelming keeps showing up weeks later — in your sleep, in your body, in ordinary days — that can be trauma, and it can be processed.
- Abuse When abuse has worn down your sense that you can act, naming what happened — confidentially, at your own pace — is where that starts coming back.
- Domestic Abuse When a relationship stops feeling safe, you can talk it through confidentially, at your own pace, before deciding anything.
Anger, stress & addictions
- Anger Management When anger goes from calm to full intensity in seconds, it is usually protecting something underneath — and that part can be worked with.
Work, performance & responsibility
- Life Coaching When you can tell something has to change but not what, coaching is about building the plan rather than processing the past.
Identity, relationships & direction
- Men's Issues When handling everything alone stops being sustainable, asking for help is the skill you're missing — not the failure you're avoiding.
- Women's Issues When you've gone with the flow of everyone else's day long enough to lose track of your own needs, that's worth taking back.
- Separation & Divorce When a relationship ends, the sadness, anger, and uncertainty that follow don't mean anything is wrong with you.
- Christian Perspective When a hard season starts pulling at your faith as well as your mood, you can talk to a therapist who takes both seriously.
- Spiritual Issues When questions of meaning and connection sit as a quiet, persistent weight, you can bring them into a session without having them resolved first.
- Sex & Intimacy When physical closeness has become distant or difficult, it's rarely down to a single cause — and it's a conversation therapists have often.
- Toxic Relationships When you're walking on eggshells and starting to doubt your own read on what's happening, naming the pattern is where it begins to loosen.
- Emotional Unavailability When closeness keeps feeling out of reach — in a partner, or in yourself — that distance is usually learned, which means it can be unlearned.
- Conflict Resolution When the same disagreement keeps repeating, it usually means nobody was ever taught how to navigate it — and that can be learned.
Assessments & clarity
Where we can help, and where we can't
Our adult counselling is for people 18 and older who are living with anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, trauma or a season of change, whether or not it has a name yet.
A good fit if…
- You're 18 or older and looking for individual therapy.
- Something is weighing on you — named or not, diagnosed or not.
- You want regular, scheduled sessions rather than urgent care.
- Getting to an office is hard: a long commute, limited mobility, childcare, a full schedule, or fewer local options where you live. Online means the same therapist and the same care, from wherever you're comfortable.
Another kind of support may fit better if…
-
You're in immediate danger, or thinking about ending your life — you deserve faster help than scheduled sessions can give.
-
You're in an acute mental-health crisis that needs urgent or hospital-based care.
-
A relationship is in high conflict — couples counselling may be a better place to begin than individual sessions.

Questions adults ask
No. Most people come while managing everyday life. You don't have to hit a breaking point to deserve support.
Start with our Intake Specialists. They'll learn what you're looking for and match you with an adult-therapy specialist. It's easy to switch if the fit isn't right.
Sessions with our registered therapists are covered by most extended health benefit plans. We can help you check your coverage first.
Both. Meet in person at a Bayridge office in Ontario or securely online across Ontario and Alberta, with the same therapist either way.
What you bring to therapy stays confidential. Sessions are private, records are kept securely, and online sessions run on an encrypted, private connection. There are a few limits every therapist explains up front: if there's a serious risk to your safety or someone else's, a concern about a child's safety, or a court order, we may be required by law to act. Your therapist will walk you through this at your first session.
For most people, yes. Talking with a trained therapist is one of the most well-researched ways to ease anxiety, low mood, stress and the effects of difficult experiences. It works best when the fit feels right, which is why we start by matching you with a therapist and make it easy to change therapists if you need to.
Every Bayridge therapist is registered with their provincial regulatory college and works within its standards. Our team includes registered psychotherapists, registered social workers and psychologists, with specialists in areas such as trauma, addictions and mood disorders. We match you to someone whose training fits what you're working through.
Call us at (905) 319-1488 or send a message through our contact page. Our Intake Specialists will ask a little about what you're looking for, answer any questions, and book your free 20-minute consultation. No referral is needed.
