Couples & Marriage Counselling

Find your way back to each other

Counselling for couples at any stage — together, or on your own. You don't both have to be ready to begin.

Two people holding hands

You don't both have to be ready, and it doesn't have to be a crisis.

Most couples wait far longer than they need to, hoping things will settle on their own.

You don't both have to be ready to start. If you're the one who has noticed, that is reason enough to reach out.

It might be time if…

  • The same argument keeps happening in a different costume.

  • You're living more like roommates than partners.

  • Something happened that broke trust.

  • One of you is thinking about leaving, and hasn't said it out loud.

  • You want to come together, but you're the only one who has called.

What we help with

Wherever you are with each other, there is a way in.

Start with what sounds most like you — or let our Intake Specialists help you find the fit. We work with couples of every kind, including same-sex and LGBTQ+ partners.

We draw on the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Imago-informed approaches.

Communication & recurring conflict We keep having the same fight.

When a relationship has turned harmful Something doesn't feel safe anymore.

There is violence, or fear of violence, in the relationship. Couples counselling is not the safe place to start — individual support is, and we can help you find it.

Either of you is in immediate danger, or thinking about ending your life.

Toxic patterns · Control & coercion · Rebuilding safety

How the first conversation goes

1

A free first conversation

Nothing is decided on the first call. Come together or on your own, we'll talk about what's happening and match you with a couples therapist who fits — a free 20-minute conversation, whenever you're ready.

2

Matched with a couples therapist

We match you by the concern you're facing and the approach that fits, drawing on the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Imago-informed approaches.

3

50-minute sessions, your way

Sessions run 50 minutes, in person in Ontario or securely online across Ontario and Alberta.

What couples often notice

A fresh lift of hope, even early on A calmer way to talk when things get hard A new understanding of what your partner needs Feeling close again without losing your own sense of self

It is not one conversation — it is a path

Couples work tends to move through the same stages, in roughly this order. Not every couple travels all of it, and no one is on a timetable.

  1. Naming the pattern

Before anything changes, you both get to see the loop you are caught in — and where it starts.

  2. Turning down the heat

Enough safety in the room that you can say the real thing without the armour.

  3. Hearing each other

Learning what sits underneath the argument, on both sides, not only your own.

  4. Practising the repair

The actual skills: how to raise something, how to respond, how to come back after a rupture.

  5. What you keep

The tools stay with you either way. Where the relationship goes from here stays yours to decide.

You're not putting your relationship in one person's hands.

The therapist you see is part of a wider team of 60+ registered therapists, not a lone practitioner working in isolation.

That means your care draws on more than one perspective, and the approach can flex as your relationship does.

Things people ask

Questions couples ask

You don't both have to be ready to begin. You can book the free 20-minute consultation on your own and come to sessions on your own; many people start individually and their partner joins later. If you're the one who has noticed, that is reason enough to reach out, and relationship work is still valuable with one person in the room.

Often, no. Couples come to us at every stage, including after betrayal or when separation is on the table. Tell our Intake Specialists what's happening and they'll match you with a couples therapist who fits.

Neither. A couples therapist is not a referee handing out blame. They help you both see the pattern you're caught in, and change it.

Sessions with our registered therapists are covered by most extended health plans, and we provide receipts for reimbursement. We'll help you check your coverage before you book.

It varies. Some couples come for a few weeks to work through one issue; others stay for several months to rebuild something deeper. Your therapist will talk openly with you about what's realistic, and there's no set number of sessions you're locked into.

The first session is mostly about understanding what's brought you here. Your therapist will ask about your relationship and what you'd each like to change, explain how confidentiality works, and set out a few ground rules so both of you feel safe to speak. There's nothing to prepare.

Yes. For ethical and legal reasons, everyone who takes part in a session is named on the invoice. We can note who paid so you can submit it to the right insurance plan. If you have questions about billing before you book, our Intake Specialists are happy to walk you through it.

Yes. You don't need to have decided anything to begin. Therapy can help you gain clarity either way, whether that means finding your way back to each other or parting with more understanding and less harm. Coming in unsure is a completely valid place to start.
