How an in-home assessment works
An in-home psychoeducational assessment brings the assessment to you. For some clients that is a convenience; for others it is what makes an assessment accessible.
A familiar, supportive environment can help reduce stress and make the process more effective. It is especially valuable for a client with mobility limitations, or one for whom screens and setup instructions are their own obstacle.
In-home assessments are currently offered in Central Ontario (Barrie, Elmvale, Innisfil, Stayner), Georgian Bay (Blue Mountain, Collingwood, Meaford, Thornbury, Wasaga Beach), Orillia and Owen Sound.
Our psychometrist carries everything required, so there is nothing to buy, install or configure. If you would rather not have an assessor in the house, a virtual assessment covers the same ground online, and our Burlington, Kitchener and Wasaga assessment centres see clients in person.
Who it suits, and what we need
We confirm the setup with you or your caregiver before the appointment, so nothing is discovered on the day.
Age 8 and over
We currently accept clients aged eight years and older for in-home assessments.
Difficulty with technology
Nothing has to be set up, connected or calibrated by you: the alternative to a virtual assessment for anyone the technology would get in the way of.
Mobility limitations
No travel to a clinic: the assessment comes to you, in your own space.
A quiet space with a table
A distraction-free room in the home, ideally with a large table and comfortable seating.
What the process looks like
Online clinical interview
We review your submitted questionnaire and gather developmental, medical, family, academic and social-emotional history, reading report cards, Individual Education Plans and previous assessments alongside it.
Testing in your home
Our psychometrist brings all required testing materials and equipment. Nothing is needed from you. On the day they prepare the testing environment, explain the process, and make sure both client and caregiver are comfortable before beginning.
Analysis
Scoring and interpretation, report writing, summaries, recommendations and any warranted diagnoses by the psychologist.
Online feedback session
A full explanation of the report and any diagnoses, including how to read it and how the results may affect learning, worldview and social interactions, with recommendations for an effective Individual Education Plan.
Parent advocacy
An online workshop and individual sessions with a parent advocate, included in the service.
Named, credentialed people behind your report
Testing is administered by a psychometrist and supervised, reviewed and signed by a psychologist.
