In Jana's words
Curiosity and care guide everything I do! I truly enjoy getting to know each child as a unique individual. I approach each assessment with a focus on the individual child, tailoring my methods to their personality and needs. Sometimes a little humour or a few stickers is all it takes to turn a tricky task into a fun challenge. I strive to create a space that is approachable and playful, helping children feel comfortable while giving parents confidence that their child is being understood and supported.

A few questions, answered
My journey toward becoming a psychometrist began within a private family practice in South Africa, where I worked while pursuing my undergraduate studies. Surrounded by professionals dedicated to unravelling the complexities of the human mind, I was drawn to the intricate beauty of neuropsychology. Witnessing its ability to help individuals understand their cognitive and emotional landscapes sparked curiosity within me to keep learning. When life brought me to Canada, I transitioned into the educational field, a space that allowed me to share my growing knowledge and nurture my passion for understanding human potential. This chapter has deepened my appreciation for the interplay between cognitive and emotional factors in shaping how we learn and grow.
Psychometry is the opportunity to translate the mind’s complex and often invisible processes into something tangible and meaningful. Using tools and data to reveal the intricate terrain of someone’s cognitive and emotional world. Each assessment is a unique journey, a process of discovery that helps connect patterns and insights to form a clear picture of an individual’s strengths, challenges, and potential. For me, it’s the blend of science, humanity, and creativity that makes this role so rewarding.
An assessment isn’t about highlighting limitations—it’s about uncovering strengths and discovering what someone can do well. It provides a clearer understanding of how the mind works and offers insights into areas of growth and opportunity. For me, the focus is always on empowering individuals with knowledge about themselves, creating strategies to support their learning, and helping them navigate challenges with confidence. It’s a process of celebrating abilities while paving the way for continuous growth. What are you most grateful for? I am most grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow through life’s challenges. It’s in the moments of difficulty and joy that I discover what truly matters—connection, love, and the simple act of being present. Gratitude, for me, is about recognizing the lessons that shape us and the relationships that make life meaningful. What energizes you about your career? The opportunity for growth and continuous learning is what truly excites me about my career. Moving to a new country opened the door to a fresh field of work and broadened my perspective in ways I hadn't anticipated. The chance to continuously expand my knowledge and skills keeps me inspired. I’m driven by the idea that there is always more to understand about the mind and human potential, and that fuels my passion for what I do. The dynamic nature of this work keeps me motivated, as each new challenge offers an opportunity to learn, adapt, and make a meaningful impact. What one thing would you like every parent to know? Dr. Seuss wisely said, “Sometimes the questions are complicated, and the answers are simple.” In educational psychology, this resonates deeply. The challenges children face in learning and development may seem complex, but the answers often lie in understanding their unique needs and providing the right support. Parents, too, can learn from their children in this process. Children have a way of showing us the importance of patience, creativity, and seeing the world through fresh eyes. As we help guide them, we’re often reminded of the simplicity and joy in embracing each moment, learning alongside them every step of the way.
