Complex Assessment

One of the main objectives of a complex assessment is to identify any challenges the child may face, particularly concerning mental health, cognitive abilities, and academic achievements. For instance, it may reveal that a child is experiencing mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, alongside difficulties in learning or cognitive processing. This more intricate understanding helps develop targeted interventions, recommendations, learning/testing accommodations, and support strategies tailored to the child’s needs.

Your child's assessment will include the following components:

  • Clinical Interview: During this session, we will review the questionnaire you submitted and gather information about your child’s developmental, medical, family, academic, and social-emotional history. We will also analyze report cards, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and any previous assessments.
  • Testing: Our psychometrist will use standardized assessment batteries to evaluate cognitive functioning, academic performance, and socio-emotional development. Additionally, it incorporates the child’s self-reports, as well as reports from parents and teachers, to provide a well-rounded understanding of the child’s functioning, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Analysis: Scoring and interpretation, report writing, writing of summaries, recommendations and any warranted diagnoses by the psychologist.
  • Feedback Session: After the assessment, we will provide a comprehensive explanation of the report and any diagnoses. This will help you understand how to read the report and how the results may affect your child’s learning, worldview, and social interactions. Each psychoeducational assessment has tailored recommendations for creating an effective Individual Education Plan (IEP), highlighting necessary accommodations and interventions.
  • Parent Advocacy: Bayridge Counselling Centres offers valuable support for parents navigating the challenges of assessment and diagnosis. Included in our services, we provide a workshop and individual sessions with a parent advocate. These resources are designed to help you and your child through what can often be a confusing journey. We recognize that receiving assessment results can be overwhelming, but you don’t have to face it alone. Our team is here to help you advocate for your child, guiding you through the next steps in the process.
