A few questions, answered
As someone who is genuinely interested in and curious about the world and others, I have always been inspired to learn. My interest in pursuing the mental health field truly unfolded when I secured my first role shortly after graduating from my undergraduate degree. As a Research Assistant at St. Michael’s Hospital, I had the opportunity to work with various underserved populations. Through interacting and speaking compassionately with these individuals, I learned first-hand about the socioeconomic barriers they faced. Since then, I have been inspired to dedicate my education and experience to helping those in need.
My favourite thing about being a therapist is that this role allows me to share in and walk alongside my clients during some of the most vulnerable stages of life, helping guide them toward the light at the end of their challenges. I enjoy building authentic relationships with others and sharing knowledge about mental health to help those in need.
I am most grateful for the opportunity to wake up every day for my family and my clients. I am also grateful for all of the colleagues I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from, and for the ability to share my knowledge to help clients in need.
As a mother of a three-year-old who has gone through the trenches, I want every parent to know that you are doing a phenomenal job—even at times when you may doubt yourself or question your actions or behaviours. Every day is a new learning experience, and you learn a little more today than you knew yesterday.
Talking can be both cathartic and therapeutic. By communicating effectively, we have the opportunity to express our thoughts and feelings while also learning about other people’s ways of thinking. With appropriate word choices and tone, talking can also help reduce misunderstandings between people.
