In Hanah's words
Hi, I’m Hanah. My interest in becoming a therapist began during my child and youth practitioner education, when I had the opportunity to work with children and adolescents in a day treatment program. That experience showed me how meaningful it can be to support people as they begin to understand themselves differently, work through challenges, and make changes that have a meaningful impact on their lives.

Over the past nine years, I have worked in the mental health field supporting individuals through a range of emotional, behavioural, social, and relational challenges. My approach to therapy is warm and collaborative. I want clients to feel comfortable being themselves and to know they are entering a space where they can feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment. Together, we can explore barriers and patterns that no longer serve you, build on your strengths, and work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.
While therapy can involve difficult conversations, I don’t believe it always has to feel heavy or clinical. It can also include humour, creativity, joy, pride, curiosity, celebration, and meaningful moments of care and connection. I aim to create a space where clients feel heard and understood while gaining practical coping skills, new perspectives, and a deeper understanding of themselves.
I believe well-being is an ongoing journey, not a destination. Life can change in unexpected ways, and therapy offers a supportive space to better understand yourself, work through challenges, and reconnect with what matters most.

A few questions, answered
My first internship at a day treatment centre for children and adolescents was what initially sparked my interest in becoming a therapist. Through that experience, I became passionate about working with children, teens, and families and saw the impact that having the right support can make. I became interested in helping people better understand themselves, navigate challenges, advocate for themselves, and feel supported as they work toward goals that are meaningful to them.
My favourite part of being a therapist is witnessing the moments when something begins to click for a client. Sometimes that means gaining a new understanding of themselves, recognizing a pattern they had not noticed before, reaching a goal, or realizing how much progress they have already made. Being able to support someone through those moments of growth and self-discovery is one of the most rewarding parts of the work for me.
It is completely normal to feel nervous or uncertain about starting therapy, particularly if it is your first time. You do not need to have the right words, know where to begin, or have clear goals before your first appointment. We can take the time to explore what brings you to counselling and identify what support would be most helpful for you. Therapy is a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can share at your own pace. While some conversations may be difficult, therapy can also include humour, curiosity, celebration, and moments of connection.
Seeing people grow, recognize their strengths, and reach goals they once didn’t think were possible are some of the most rewarding parts of my work. I also love that mental health is a field where there is always more to learn. New research and evolving knowledge about mental health, trauma, neuroscience, and therapeutic approaches allow me to continue developing both personally and clinically.
Friends and other supportive people can play an incredibly important role in our lives, but therapy offers a different kind of relationship. The therapeutic space is confidential, focused on your needs, and guided by professional ethics, clinical training, and evidence-informed approaches. Unlike a friendship, you do not need to worry about taking up too much space, returning the support, or how what you share may affect the relationship. Therapy also allows us to look beyond the immediate problem and explore patterns, emotions, experiences, and underlying factors that may be influencing how you feel or respond. The goal is not simply to give advice, but to help you develop greater insight, skills, and confidence in making decisions that are right for you.
