In Nkiru's words

As a registered psychotherapist, I understand the critical role an individual’s mental health plays in one’s daily life, which is why therapy is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Hence, I ensure that when I am extending counselling support and resources to my clients, I approach each session and interaction with the mindset of prioritizing my client’s needs. I implement counselling interventions and techniques that consider my client’s biopsychosocial framework while also implementing and maintaining an intersectional approach, as we all are multi-dimensional.

One of my goals is to not only establish rapport with my clients who are seeking therapy but also to ensure that their experience during the counselling process allows them to flourish into individuals who choose to live their true, authentic lives. Someone capable of establishing coping mechanisms and goals that would help play an essential role in the management of stressors and improvement in their overall mental health.

A few questions, answered

Growing up I was always fascinated with having deep and meaningful conversations with my friends and family members, and I wanted to be seen as a safe space for anyone who wanted to talk, vent, brainstorm, etc. While I had no control over who believed they could trust me, my feedback, or my judgment, I sensed that people were comfortable around me and willing to be honest and transparent during our conversations. I don't take anyone's vulnerability for granted, and I find it humbling as a mental health professional to be a part of anyone's journey as they learn to find their place in this world, address their mental health challenges and, hopefully, reignite their love for life and everything that comes with it. My passion and advocacy for people to enrich their lives by working on and improving their mental health has motivated me to go into spaces that encourage such conversations and environments that are still struggling with prioritizing one's mentalhealth. It is indeed such a rewarding position to be in, and I am grateful to be able to do what I do every day.

I appreciate learning about other people’s life experiences and helping them discover their strengths in overcoming daily challenges or mental health-related struggles.

I encourage people to be open to whatever their experience may be and to prepare themselves before their first session by reflecting on their personal counselling goals.

I am grateful for life and the opportunity to remain hopeful each day.

Experiencing people engage in self-discovery while fostering a sense of optimism and resilience.

Trauma cannot inspire your resiliency and persistence to experience healing.
