Psychoeducational assessment

Comprehensive Psychoeducational Assessment

When school is harder than it should be, a psychoeducational assessment shows why, and turns the answer into recommendations for your child's Individual Education Plan.

What a psychoeducational assessment answers

Our comprehensive psychoeducational assessment focuses on essential areas of cognitive functioning, academic performance, and socio-emotional development. It includes a series of standardized cognitive and educational measures, which are essential for diagnosing specific learning disorders and attention deficit disorders (ADHD or ADD).

If the question is emotional or behavioural rather than academic, a mental health assessment is the narrower evaluation. Where learning and mental-health questions overlap, a complex assessment covers both.

What this assessment measures

Three areas, assessed together with standardized cognitive and educational measures.

Cognitive functioning

Reasoning, working memory and processing speed: the underlying capacities behind how your child learns.

Academic performance

Reading, writing and mathematics measured against standardized norms, so a mark on a report card can be compared with actual ability.

Socio-emotional development

Mood, anxiety and behaviour, to clarify whether emotions are masking ability.

How it works

What the process looks like

1

Clinical interview

We review the questionnaire you submitted and gather your child's developmental, medical, family, academic and social-emotional history. Report cards, Individual Education Plans and any previous assessments are read as part of this.

2

Testing

Our psychometrist administers standardized assessment batteries covering cognitive functioning, academic performance and socio-emotional development.

3

Analysis

Scoring and interpretation, report writing, summaries, recommendations and any warranted diagnoses by the psychologist.

4

Feedback session

We explain the report and any diagnoses in full, including how the results may affect your child's learning, worldview and social interactions. Recommendations are written for an effective Individual Education Plan, naming the accommodations and interventions to ask for.

5

Parent advocacy

A workshop and individual sessions with a parent advocate, included in the service: support for acting on a diagnosis rather than being left with a document.

The people behind your child's report

Testing is administered by a psychometrist and supervised, reviewed and signed by a psychologist.
