What I Do?

As a Rehabilitation, Vocational and Life Coach for the past 25 years, I have worked with youth and adults (at risk and not at risk) to assist them in finding their career or life path. I believe that as a coach I have an obligation to assist my clients in attaining their personal and professional goals. Coaching is not for everyone, but if you are ready to make a change and move forward in your life, coaching may be for you.

People often ask me the difference between a coach and a counsellor. The basic difference is that a coach is not a therapist. Coaches focus mostly on looking forward towards your future, rather than dealing primarily with your past.

When looking for a life or career coach, you need to find a coach that has the following qualities:

  • A great communicator and listener.
  • Energetic and motivating clients. Someone who will listen to the needs of the client.
  • Excellent intuition to be able to get a good read or “gut feeling” about their clients and situations.
  • Having a positive attitude and promoting encouragement.
  • Empowerin clients to make the changes they desire.
  • Asking the right questions.
  • Refining job search skills.
  • Recognizing talents and skills in a client and helping them tap into their true potential.
  • Being organized.
  • Looking at the “big picture”.

My role as your coach is to assist you in uncovering whatever is holding you back from achieving the ideal vision of yourself and setting yourself up to take action to achieve your vision. I will be there to support you throughout this process and keep you accountable. I believe that we all have stepping-stones to walk through in order to reach our goals. My commitment to you is to tell the truth in order to see that goals are met, and your success is obtained. I am committed to working with my clients to discuss not only the things they can do, but things they may need to avoid in order to reach their true potential. I am willing to be honest, understanding and direct in order to assist you reach your goals.

I have a postgraduate Career Development Practitioner Diploma from Mohawk College and I am a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) with the Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada, as well as a member in good standing with the College of Vocational Professionals (CVRP) and a Return to Work Disability Manager (RTWDM). I obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario and a Bachelor of Adult Education Degree from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Throughout my career I have worked with hundreds of injured workers who have been seeking re-employment. I have also worked with Veterans Affairs, Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Employment Supports, long- and short-term disability, Canada Pension Plan Disability and with major insurance companies.

Over the last few years, I have dedicated myself to learning and obtaining new skills. I have been certified as a PGAP Instructor and have been taking Doula Certifications in the following areas: Pregnancy and Child Loss, Fertility and Menopause Doula/Practitioner. By opening my practice, I assist singles and families with issues that arise in daily living and trying to ease the transitions one session at a time.

I look forward to working with you and helping you with your stepping-stones to a happy and healthy future.

Frequently Asked Questions With Michelle

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Being able to help a person through difficult times and being able to see them reach their goals.

I like the diversity within my clients; one day is different from the next.

I would first ask them why they are hesitant, and if they had ever been to coaching/counselling. Secondly, I would ask them what they think coaching/counselling is all about. Thirdly, I would connect with them to talk about my approach and assist them with resolving one of their minor reasons for coaching/counselling to help get them to understand how coaching/counselling works.

I am most grateful for my family and friends as they keep me grounded and provide love and support.

I’m energized by seeing the good I can do in my clients’ lives and by helping them reach their goals that they never thought were possible.

I was working with a gentleman who was in a highly stressful and dangerous career. He feared that he would never be able to RTW due to the PTSD that he was going through. By our final session, he had a new career goal that he was working towards, was able to RTW to his own career with some modifications, and stated that he never thought that anyone would be able to get him to RTW. He was grateful to have a sense of pride back that he was missing when he was not working.
