What I Do?

“Asking For Help Reveals Strength, Not Weakness” — Dr Margie Warrell

“Your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.”

Have you experienced trauma, hopelessness, or lack of validation in your life? Are you overwhelmed, depressed, anxious, or lost? As a counsellor, I focus on gaining an understanding of what is causing your struggles when you tell your story. I attempt to create a place of safety where you can feel comfortable sharing what’s on your heart. Together we’ll explore your past and present to bring awareness and understanding about what is holding you back from a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Do you wonder who you are and why everyone else seems to thrive but you lag behind? I’ve walked in those places and understand what pain and trauma are about. My experience has given me a unique ability to walk alongside you so you can move toward creating a testimony of your healing and empowerment instead of continuing down a path of disappointment and hopelessness. My journey involved much support, counselling, encouragement, and the grace of God in helping me move through my trauma to living triumphantly as an overcomer. You deserve to thrive, to be loved, to know you matter, and to experience inner peace.

Are you a couple or an adult member of a family wondering why you are struggling so much? It is a pleasure to work with relationships as together we navigate through conflicts that cause tension or walls that prevent an openness with each other. Often our past experiences and expectations come from a deep place of pain or need. They can cause misunderstandings, defensiveness, and an inability to look at conflicts rationally. Often we interpret other’s actions or conversations through a trauma lens or triggers that cloud our vision. As a counsellor, it is satisfying to see each individual within their marriage or family gaining insight and revelation that creates hopeful transformation.

With my professional training and almost two decades of therapeutic experience working with couples, relationships, and individuals I have the tools, knowledge, and skills to journey with you as you seek freedom from self-defeating habits and beliefs, experiences of depression, anxiety, trauma, codependency, and conflict. My counselling approach is interconnected and integrative as I utilize numerous modalities. These include Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Christian Counselling, Existential Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy

Frequently Asked Questions With Lorna

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

I was seeing a therapist after leaving an abusive marriage. I had always been someone who people talked to about their problems. My traumatic history gave me lots of experience to understand people’s pain and have empathy after I worked through my issues.

I love to see the brightening of my clients’ eyes when they realize there is hope to overcome the struggles they are having.

I encourage them that they are not weak for asking for counselling but rather they are showing strength and resilience as they fight for themselves. I would help them know that the root causes of their issues are learned behaviours and can be unlearned.

For God because I’d have nothing and be nowhere without him. I’m grateful for my marriage, my family and my sweet grandchildren.

It’s okay to admit mistakes and be humble. God needs to be number one not your spouse.

If children are acting up, disobedient, throwing things, fighting or rebellious, they are lacking love, validation, nurture, and attention. That is not the time to ground them or send them to their room. They are already feeling abandoned.

That I’m easy to talk to. That they feel comfortable with me. That they appreciate me exploring root causes of their issues and not just treating symptoms.
