Frequently Asked Questions With Dilnawaz

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

From early childhood, I was a keen observer of human behavior and at that time I was not even aware that a subject like psychology existed. In Grade 10 I got hold of a book entitled “Introduction to Psychology” by Sigmund Freud. I read the book and it was then I realized I wanted to pursue my career in psychology. I am intrinsically motivated to understand human brain and behavior.

Helping individuals when they are going through tough times and don’t know how to proceed is quite rewarding. Bringing meaningful change in their lives is something that I value most. It’s not that they don’t know how to help themselves. It is simply that during those times they are at a loss as to what to do and they need someone non-judgemental and understanding to help them.

First, I would validate their hesitation. Then I would try to explore the reason behind the hesitation. I would address the that and in turn establish rapport with the client to help the client be open to counseling.

The greatest misunderstanding, I believe, is that the more they avoid trauma and its memories, the better they will feel. Most of the clients going through trauma try their best to divert their attention, to get away from the traumatic memories and feelings, but they fail.

Talking is cathartic. It helps to establish rapport with clients, empowering them to come up with more things than they initially intended to share in the session. The client feels better after talking. Secondly, sometimes clients, while they are talking openly in a safe environment realize the solutions, irrationalities of thoughts, and alternative thoughts on their own without the therapist doing any therapy. The reason is that they haven’t talked about the issue before. In therapeutic setting, through talking, they resolve issues on their own.

“You have given me a new perspective that no matter what, I would not have reached”.
“You have changed my life for good”.
“You played a meaningful part in my life”.
