What I Do?

I know that life is not always easy, but it can still be good. No matter what you are going through, I am convinced that there is a solution to be found and a path to a happier, more successful life where better relationships, self-esteem, self-control, and peace of mind are possible. Let’s figure this out together.

  • My approach to counselling is strengths-based, meaning that I will help you discover and use your own strengths and the wisdom gained from your life experiences to find solutions. I have also found that many mental health problems can be related to past events or things others have said to us. The adage, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me” is wrong. Hurtful things said to us may not break our bones, but they hurt us, nonetheless. The good news is that we do not have to carry the consequences of past hurts for the rest of our lives. There is hope.

Ben's Favorite Quote

“The most beautiful people we have known are those people who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.”

– Kubler-Ross

A counsellor came alongside me, helping me work through issues to find the strength and resilience I needed to get back into life. It was this experience that led me to become a psychotherapist, and I have been blessed over the years to walk alongside others as they learn to live happier, more fulfilled lives.

My life goal is to make a difference in peoples’ lives, and to live my best life. This goal can be summed up by Isaiah chapter 50 verse 4: The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.

I have been described by clients and peers as caring, warm, empathetic, a good listener, and insightful. It has also been said that I have a calming influence on others, and never seem fazed no matter what my clients tell me.
